   Pudong International Airport is located in the east of Shanghai, covering an area of 40 km2, about 30 km away from the city center, and about 40 km away from Hongqiao International Airport.

Project Phase I of Pudong Inter- national Airport started officially in Oct. 1997 and completed in Sep. 1999. Project Phase I has one 4E South-north runway (4000m×60m), two parallel taxiways, 800,000 m2 apron, seventy-six aircraft positions, 50,000m2 cargo warehouse, and also equipped with the system of navigation,communication, surveillance, weathering and logistics service etc. It is capable of providing 24-hour round service.

The terminal building of Pudong International Airport is composed of two parts, i.e. main building and long terminal concourse, both 3-storey structured, and connected by two passages. The building covers an area about 280,000 m2, with thirteen conveying luggage belts and twenty-eight boarding bridges; the area of food & drinks facilities and other leasing service facilities reaches 60,000 m2.

Currently, Pudong International Airport has accommodated an average aircraft movements over 400 times per day, already accounting for approx. 60% of the total aircraft movements of Shanghai. And it is serving for about 50 domestic and foreign airlines, connecting with over 70 international and regional destinations and 60 domestic destinations.

The entire construction of Pudong International Airport consists of the main building and long terminal concourses both of which are connected by two passages. 13 baggage transfer belts for arrivals and 28 boarding bridges and other attached service, like shopping area, restaurants, etc. can bring you great convenience.

Directions & Transportations 
Taxi - Taxis are available and passengers passengers must join the correct queue for the desired destination, queues are determined by journey duration.A taxi costs approximately CNY 150 from Pudong International Airport to People's Square, the center of Shanghai, and it takes about 50 minutes.
Bus - There are five bus routes which serve different areas of Shanghai. Airport bus no. 1 connects Pudong International Airport with Hong Qiao International Airport and airport bus no. 2 runs to Shanghai Exhibition Centre. Other routes run to Zunyi Road; Dongjiagwan Road; and Shanghai Railway Station.
Rail - The Maglev Train, a magnetic levitation train and the fastest in the world, connects the airport with metro line no.2 at Longyang station. The station is situated next to the airport and is connected to the terminal by a bridge.
Road - There are many options available to travelers arriving and leaving the airport: car; bus; and taxi services. 
Yingbin Road, which runs through the airport, connects to Shanghai's outer ring road and Fareast Road, which is west of the airport, connects to Shanghai?s inner ring road. The outer ring road joins Pudong International Airport to Hong Qiao International Airport. The inner ring road leads to the Shanghai city centre.

Terminal Buildings
New Terminal Building 2 (T2) has come into use since March 26, 2008. There were successively two groups of airlines moving from T1 to T2. The first fifteen airlines includes Air India (AI), Alitalia (AZ), British Airways (BA), Shanghai Airlines (FM), Garuda-Indonesia Airline (GA), Malaysia Airlines (MH), Northwest Airlines of America (NW), Philippine Airlines (PR), Qantas (QF), Qatar Airways (QR), Royal Nepal Airlines (RA), Transaero Airlines (UN), Virgin Atlantic (VS), Air Ukraine (VV) and Cebu Pacific Air (5J). Other 18 airlines was removed on April 29: Air Canada (AC), Finnair (AY), Royal Brunei Air (BI), Air China (CA), Cathay Pacific Airways (CX), China Southern Airlines (CZ), Emirates Airlines (EK), Dragon Air (KA), Lufthansa German Airlines (LH), All Nippon Airways (NH), Air Macau (NX), Air New Zealand (NZ), Asiana Airlines (OZ), Singapore Airlines (SQ), Russian Airlines (SU), Thai Airways (TG), Turkish Airlines (TK) and American United Airlines (UA).

By far, T1 only retains few airlines, including American Airlines (AA), Air France (AF), American Delta Airlines (DL), China Express Air (G5), Juneyao Airlines (HO), Hainan Airlines (HU), Japan Airlines (JL), Korean Air (KE), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL), China Eastern Airlines (MU), Shenzhen Airlines (4G), Sichuan Airlines (3U), East Star Air (8C) and Spring Air (9C).

Please make sure you go to the right terminal building. Special roadway and buses are accessible for the convenience of shuttling between T1 and T2. Passenger can go through the three long corridors between them. These regular buses depart every 10 minute and take about 5 minutes from one building to the other. They can be found at Exit 1 of the domestic and Exit 8 of the international departure levels in T1 and Exit 23 of the international and Exit 27 of the domestic departure levels in T2. Operating hours range from 06:00 to 21:00. In addition, passengers can get into T2 via the connecting porch for Maglev trains. For those who drive by themselves or take taxis, they can get to T2 though A20 Expressway, A1 (Yingbin Dadao) and then Shanghai North-South Elevated Freeway.

 Passengers Transfer
T2 has three floors. Domestic departure and arrival are mixed in Level 1. Passenger will only need no more than 20 minutes to finish the whole procedure of transfer between one domestic flight to another. There is a transfer hall of 4,000 square meters in the center of the building, equipped with forty counters to handle centralized services for ticketing, border and security inspection, and baggage checking. It brings great convenience to those passengers who will make a transfer between domestic (D) and international (I) flights and I - I flights.

 I - D: After arriving in the CIQ (China Inspection & Quarantine) Area and being checked, head for the transfer hall to handle check-in and enter the concourse of departure (minimum time duration about 51 minutes).
 D - I: After arriving in the connected concourse and passing through the domestic departure area, head for the transfer hall and take an escalator or elevator up to the international CIQ Area, preparing for leaving (minimum time duration about 49 minutes).
 I - I: There are nine counters to handle the transfer and transit service in the central part of the  international arrival concourse. After arranging the boarding check, take the dedicated elevator up to the international CIQ Area, awaiting departure (minimum time duration about 29 minutes).

 Shopping Area: For your convenience duty free shopping is also available between Gates 15 and 20 for International Departures.

 Restaurants: Dozens of restaurants can be found within Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Two of the most famous establishments are Canglang Ting Restaurant and Hong Fangzi Western Food Restaurant.

 Hourly Hotel: A three-star-rated hotel is located on the Transfer Level of the main terminal building. You will need to provide your boarding pass before registering. It is also possible to reserve a room in advance by calling 021-68346480 (for domestic service) and 021-68346490 (for international service).

 Toilet: Restrooms are conveniently located in both the Domestic Departure area as well as the International Departure areas.

Shanghai has two international airports something no other city in China can boast. The Pudong International Airport (PVG) handles 60% of flights including most flights from all over the world, while the remaining 40% use Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). As one of the main Chinese airline hubs, Shanghai has opened connection with nearly two hundred cities, half domestic ones and half international and regional ones. Direct flights connect Shanghai to dozens of international air terminals such as Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Fukuoka, Osaka, Tokyo, Bangkok, Brussels, Madrid, Paris, Singapore, London, Moscow, Rome and so on as well as regional links with Hong Kong and Macau. Domestic flights link Shanghai with Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xian, Xiamen, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenyang, etc.

PVG, situated in the east of Shanghai is about 30 kilometers (19 miles) away from the city center and 40 kilometers (25 miles) from SHA. In total some sixty or so airlines have flights shuttling between Shanghai and other cities worldwide.

The taxi fare is about CNY 80 from PVG to the People Square, the center of Shanghai

Maglev train operates between Longyang Subway Station of Pudong New District and PVG, every day from 8:30 - 17:30 with an interval of 20 minutes. The charge is CNY 50 one-way (common seat) and CNY 100 for VIP, CNY 80 round-trip (common seat), and CNY 160 for VIP. It takes you only eight minutes to get to the airport from the Longyang Road Station.

Located in the west of Shanghai, SHA is only 13 kilometers (8 miles) away from the center of the city. Buses, taxis, hotel buses all provide transfers to the airport. From SHA to the city center, seven airport bus lines provide regular services.

By Train
Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai West Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station provide convenient transportation for tourists. Of these, Shanghai Railway Station serves as the main passenger station. Everyday 70 or so pairs of trains run between other cities all over the country. A train journey to Suzhou, takes between 40 and 90 minutes. Shanghai West Railway Station owns several pairs of trains serving routes between Shanghai and Yantai, Zaozhuang, Hengyang, Ganzhou, Chengdu. Round trips between Shanghai South Railway Station and Hangzhou, Jiashan, Jinshan, etc involving 11 pairs of trains are made daily. You may take the train at No. 289, Old Humin Road, Shanghai.

A special 'Holiday Train' from Shanghai is bound for Mt. Sanqingshan and Mt. Longhushan of Jiangxi Province, Mt. Wuyishan of Fujian Province, Mt. Yandangshan of Zhejiang Province and Mt. Huangshan of Anhui Province every Friday and returns on the following Monday morning. If you intend to travel on weekends, please go to the railway station, or any other branches of Shanghai Railway Administration for reservation.

 By Bus
National Highway Line 312 (Shanghai-Yining City of Xinjiang), 318 (Shanghai-Zhangmu Town of Tibet) and 320 (Shanghai-Ruili of Yunnan) all start from Shanghai and go westward. National Highway Line 204 (Tongjiang-trunk line of Sanya's national highway) links lots of cities through Shanghai.

Apart from its own attractions, scenic spots around Shanghai are well worth a visit. There are three tourist collecting and distributing centers set in Shanghai. They are located in Shanghai Stadium, Hongqiao Football Field and Yangpu Sports Center. It is convenient to buy tickets for one or two days travel around Shanghai, especially some of the ancient towns, like Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Zhujiajiao, etc.

Shanghai, with lots of passenger transport stations, offers convenient vehicles to neighboring cities.

Long-distance Shortcut Passenger Station---Shanghai Public Coach Transportation Co., Ltd.
Located at No. 605, Hutai Road, Shanghai, this bus station has buses bound for Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Ningbo, Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Lianyugang, Hefei, etc. You can reach the station by taking any of the following buses: Nos. 40, 47, 58, 69, 128, 129, 140, 213, 216, 224, 510, 524, 525, 710, 741, 839, 844, 845, 849 and 866.
Shanghai Coach Station---Shanghai Transportation Co., Ltd.
Situated at No. 1015, Zhongshan North Road, it is convenient to find buses bound for Yantai, Qingdao, Rizhao, Yangzhou, Ma'anshan, Wuhu, Shaoxing, etc. And also tourist buses to Mt. Huangshan, Mt. Jiuhuashan and Wuzhen can be found here.
Jiaotong Dazhong Transportation Center---Shanghai Jiaotong Dazhong Passenger Transport Co., Ltd.
Located at No. 168, Taopu Road, the station provides coaches to Nanjing, Hefei, Huai'an, Ma'anshan, Zhenjiang, Changzhou, Wuxi, Wuhan, Suzhou, etc.

Shanghai has opened tourist shopping buses bound for Yiwu (a famous wholesale market of small articles in China) of Zhejiang Province. Every morning at 7:00 a bus starts from People's Square of Shanghai and Yiwu respectively. After three hours, it will reach the destination and it will leave at 17:00.

 By Sea
Shanghai, situated at the midpoint of China's north - south coastline, is the world's third largest port and China's largest seaport. Ships sailing from Shanghai Port voyage to some 400 foreign ports. Due to the slow speed, some long-distance sea routes have been closed. Shiliu Pu Dock has regular ships for neighboring areas like Nantong City, Dinghai City and Mt. Putuoshan area. Shanghai Changjiang (Yangtze River) Shipping Corporation provides ships to Chongqing, Nanjing and Wuhan. Shanghai has also international travel boat to Incheon and Pusan ports of South Korea and Osaka and Kobe ports of Japan, starting from Wai Hongqiao Dock.
