Scenic Spots in Anhui Province 

Situated in the center of Anhui Province, Hefei is a hinterland city which is in the vicinity of Chaohu Lake and between the Yangtze and Huaihe Rivers. Thanks to the water surrounding it, Hefei City is proud of its enticing natural scenery.

Natural Landscape

The well-known Chaohu Lake is located in Hefei and is one of the five largest fresh-water lakes in China covering an area of about 800 square kilometers (about 309 square miles). There is an abundance of aquatic produce in the lake, amongst which the whitebait, the shrimp and the crab are known as the three treasures of Chaohu Lake. The lake is embraced by surrounding green mountains - layer upon layer of ridges and peaks. The 'moonlit night of the Chaohu Lake' and the 'morning glow of the four peaks' are two of the ancient eight top scenic spots in Luyang (present day Hefei).

Human Cultural Landscape

Perhaps Hui Garden, located in Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, is a window through which you can best learn about Anhui Province culture. It covers an area of 20 hectare (about 49 acres) around which the Yangtze and Huaihe Rivers flow. It is mainly divided into two garden areas: Wanbei area featuring Imperial gardens and Wannan area featuring the world-famous Hui Architectural Style. Pearl Square

    located at the cross of Hefei-Anqing Highway and Fanhua Ave., a prime location in Hefei Economic and Technological Development Area, occupies an area of 12 hectares, of which 8 hectares are green covered land

As a result of its important historical strategic position, Hefei is an area of contention among the local powers. Another cultural destination worth a visit is 'Xiaoyaojin (Leisure Ford)' a famous battlefield of the Three Kingdom Period (220 - 280) and can best elaborate its strategic importance. In this scenic area there is the Xiaoyao Lake, the Bridge of the Flying Cavalier, the Three Isles in the lake, and the Cangyou Garden

Memorial Temple of Bao Zheng

Situated on the southern side of the city center beside the moat, it is the temple of Bao Zheng, the famous upright official of the Song Dynasty. The nearby moat is called Bao Zheng Moat. Bao Zheng's Tomb lies in Daxing Township, 7.5 kilometers to the east of Hefei City. It was repaired in 1973, and the tombstone with the inscription is now on display in the temple for tourists' visit

Langya Mountain

Langya Mountain is located in Chuxian County. Before Emperor Yuan of the Eastern Jin Dynasty came to the throne, he was granted the title of King Langya and lived here.Therefore, the mountain was named after him. In the middle of the mountain is the Tipsy Pavilion built by Monk Zhixian of Langya Temple in 1046. To the west of the Tipsy Pavilion is a carved stone with Su Shi's calligraphy of Notes on the Tipsy Pavilion written by Ou Yangxiu. Before the Ancient Plum Pavilion is an ancient plum tree, which is said to have been planted by Ou Yangxiu.

Tomb of Libai (Ma'anshan)
Lying at the foot of Mt. Qingshan southeast of Dangtu County, Ma'anshan, the Tomb of Li Bai (701-762), a great poet of the Tang Dynasty, covers an area of three hectares, in the shade of ancient pines and willow trees. Near the tomb there is a memorial hall named Taibai, which houses stone inscriptions of past dynasties and paintings and calligraphy by distinguished artists. Through the ages, numerous men of letters came to show their respect to Li Bai

Caishi Ji(Ma'anshan)
Located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River in the southwestern suburb of Maanshan City, Caishi Ji is a rock projecting over the river. Caishi Ji, Swallow Ji of Nanjing and Chengling Ji of Hunan Province are 3 famous rocks along the Yangtze River. Caishi Ji was formerly named Niu Zhu Ji and got the present name as there existed colorful stones on the rock. Along the river there are buildings and pavilions, in which tourists can drink tea and enjoy the beautiful river scenery in the peaceful surroundings.

Ming Imperial Tomb
Ming Imperial Tomb is located 15 kilometers southwest of Fengyang County, it was built by Zhu Yuanzhang, founder of Ming dynasty for his parents, brothers and sister- in -law. It was built in Ming dynasty and rebuilt later. Although the tomb is not for the emperor, the system is the same as Ming Xiao Tomb and 13 Tombs of Beijing, the stone carvings are still well preserved now.
