Located on the southeast coast of China, Xiamen enjoys a pleasant climate and beautiful natural environment. And the city claims to be a city in the sea and is renowned for its various scenic spots and cultural relics. There are mainly five or so tourist areas in Xiamen.
Standing among blue waves of the East sea, Xiamen deserves its title of "Garden on the Sea". The perpetual spring with its luxuriant flowers and trees gives it another name "Green Island". The legend that it was once a habitat of egrets brings about another beautiful name 'Egret Island".
Among them, the most attractive place should be the Gulangyu Island, which prohibits motor vehicles. With rich tourist resources of intriguing scenery, historical relics and architectures of varied styles, the Gulangyu is promising to be an AAAAA national tourist attraction and surely is a must-see during your trip to Xiamen. The Sunlight Rock, which claims to be Xiamen's highest point and the Shuzhuang Garden are highly recommended. Haoyue (Bright Moon) Park and the Piano Museum are also appealing to visitors.
The Nanputuo tourist area is famous for the Nanputuo Temple, which is located at the foot of Wulaofeng (Mountain of Five Old Men) and is deemed to be the most renowned Buddhist temple in Xiamen. Closely to its south is Xiamen University, which is believed to be one of universities with the most beautiful campus. Near the campus lies the famous Hulishan Battery characterized by its hold of the largest and the smallest cannons in the world.
Another remarkable tourist area is Jimei, the hometown of Mr. Tan Kah Kee (Chen Jiageng), an outstanding educator and leader of overseas Chinese. The academic atmosphere and attractive natural scenery of Jimei is manifested by attractions such as Jimei Study Village and Ao Yuan. In addition, Guilai Tang, Jiageng Park, etc. are also worth visiting.
Wanshishan tourist area located on the north piedmont of Mt. Shishan in the east of Xiamen boasts a unique sight of exotic rocks and stones as well as various subtropical plants. Tong'an tourist area also has many interesting attractions to see.

This island is famed for its exquisite natural beauty, ancient relics and European-style architecture. Here the most attractive are Sunlight Rock and Shuzhuang Garden.
Hulishan Battery consists of barracks, a tunnel, a magazine and other fortified buildings, all surrounded by a granite wall.
Jimei, the hometown of Mr. Tan Kah Kee (Chen Jiageng), has become a popular tourist site of Xiamen City, for its academic atmosphere as well as pretty natural and social sights.

Tong'an Tourist Area
Tong'an was an old-line county with a history of 1,700 years before it became an administrative district of Xiamen in 1997. Tongan is endowed with natural beauty and productive of outstanding people, with a lot of places of interests and historical sites. Tong'an Tourist Area is generally divided into three parts
Jinmen Island lies alone outside Xiamen in the east, with the shortest distance of only 2310 metres from Xia men, being a place of strategic importance in South fujian. It is a country under Xiamen, but under the control of Taiwan goverment, with an area of 148 km2 and about 50,000 population.
Xiamen Overseas Chinese Museum:The Xiamen Overseas Chinese Museum is a comprehensive museum that highlights the history of overseas Chinese, and the only Chinese museum set up by overseas Chinese. Located at the foot of Fengchao (bee hive) Hill, the museum was founded by the eminent overseas Chinese philanthropist Chen Jiageng (Tan Kah-kee) in 1958 and opened to the public in May 1959
