Chairman Mao Memorial Hall

Chairman Mao Memorial Hall (Mausoleum of Mao Zedong, Mao Mausoleum) is the resting place of Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China from 1943 and the chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China from 1945 until his death in 1976. Located To the east of Tiananmen Square, north of the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall rests on the site of former Gate of China (Zhonghuamen). The foundation of the building was laid in November 1976 while the inauguration ceremony was held on September 1977. Chairman Mao Memorial Hall covers an area of 57.2 thousand square meters, 220m from east to west and 280m from south to north. Above the main gate of the mausoleum, a white marble plaque with golden words: "Chairman Mao Memorial Hall" was beset. Forty-four granite posts stand on the large burgundy granite base, holding the golden glazed double-eaved roof.

The grand , stately Chairman Mao Memorial Hall stands on the southern side of Tiananmen Square.Construction on it began in November 1976 and was completed in May 1977. The Memorial Hall is in the shape of a square surrounded by a colonnade, and its design incorporates elements from traditional Chinese architecture.

Chairman Mao Memorial Hall is the most important memorial hall of the Party and the state.The greatest Chinese leader of the 20th century, Mao Zedong, is laid to rest in this magnificent edifice.The north hall in the Memorial Hall is where commemorative activities are held. In its center is a white marble statue of Chairman Mao.  Chairman Maoˊs remains are in a crystal coffin in the Hall of Last Respests. The words “Long live the great leader and mentor Chairman Mao Zedong ”are inlaid in its forward–facing white marble wall.  On the second floor of the Memorial Hall are memorail chambers dedicated to the revolutionary achievements of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping and Chen Yun. The memorail chambers use dignified exhibits, valuable artifacts and detailed historical materials to vividly portray the outstanding contribution these six great revolutionaries made to the cause of the Chinese peopleˊrevolution and development.

Since it opened, tens of thousands of visitors from China and abroad have visited Chairman Mao Memorial Hall every day to reverentially pay their respests to and cherish the memory of Chairman Mao. The Memorial Hall is a focus for education in patriotism and the revolutionary tradition, and it is a place that the people of all Chinaˊs ethnic groups wish to visit.

Out the back is a small open area, formerly known as Chessboard Street, which served as a busy hub of commerce in the Ming Dynasty. The Qianmen area, one of the Beijing's busiest commercial districts, lies beyond.

In his youth , he devoted himself to the salvation of China and the Chinese people.

He participated in the founding of the Communist Party of China as a delegate from Hunan Province at the Partyˊs First National Congress in Shanghai in July–August, 1921.

Tips:
1. Memorial rooms for the revolutionary achievements of the six leaders are free to the public from 08:30 to 12:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, but only accept group visit. They are closed from July 11 to August 31.
2. The Hall is closed on special occasions. Notice Board around the Memorial Hall tells.
3. No cameras, videos devices, beverage or bags are allowed inside.

Subway: Subway Line 1: get off at Tiananmen East or Tiananmen West Station, and Chairman Mao Memorial Hall is to the south.
