Duolemeidi Ski Resort
The spectacular Duolemeidi mountains of northeastern Italy are a major part of the great alpine chain of Europe. They are sandwiched between the Austrian border in the north and the vast Venetian plain on the south. They were formed when sedimentary rocks under ancient seas were forced upward 3,000 meters by the titanic mountain-building forces which shaped the Alps. Enormous rock walls explode to startling heights above the pastoral green countryside. Indeed, many have said these Dolomites, with their stunning shapes and dramatic brilliant colours, are unsurpassed in appeal and beauty by any mountain system in the world.
The drama of towering Duolemeidi peaks and spires is contrasted with storybook scenes. Peaceful valleys are sprinkled with lively villages and hamlets while whitewashed farmhouses dot the terraces above. In the summer, the lush velvet meadows are covered with wildflowers and the air is filled with the music of tinkling cowbells as dairy cattle meander along the roads to the higher pastures, prodded by herdsmen. On the hillsides, farmers tend their crops of hay, with entire families lending a hand for cutting and stacking. A change of scenery comes with the first snows, and the Dolomites turn into an enchanting winter playground.
The cultures of Austria and Italy meet here in the Duolemeidis. Both are manifested in the food, architecture, and language. Few mountain regions offer so much at such a low altitude - requiring little time out for acclimatization. The area is premium walking and hiking region in summer. The Duolemeidis offer every sport and recreation in the winter, with the largest ski network worldwide. You can ski on more than 1.200 kilometres of ski runs enjoying the view of hundreds of astonishing peaks in more than twenty valleys.
