Fengning Grassland
Fengning Grassland, also called Fengning Datan Grassland is the nearest natural rich grasslands next to the capital, Beijing, some 280kms away. That’s why it is called No.1 grassland in northern Beijing. In summer, it is extremely cool with the average temperature of 17.4 centigrade degree and is thus a good place to avoid the summer heat. As a tourist, you can enjoy the beauty of the grassland's scene on horseback riding in the gentle breeze and taste as much as you like the strong local conditions and customs of Man and Mongolian nationalities.
Bashang Grasslands, the nearest prairie destination from Beijing, have long been one of the ideal sites to escape the city’s summer heat. Bashang Grasslands is located approximately 240 kilometers north of Beijing and covers an area of 350 square kilometers.
Generally, Bashang Grasslands include four parts namely Fengning Bashang, Zhangbei Bashang, Weichang Bashang and Guyuan Bashang. The four parts are located in four different counties in Hebei Province. For visitors from Beijing, Fengning Bashang is the site that is most accessible.
The special climate and geographical position at the junction of the North China Plain and Inner Mongolia Grasslands give Bashang its unique natural landscapes and make it a popular destination for tourists and photographers. The yearly average temperature here is around 15 degrees.
The period from June through September is the best time for visiting. The average temperature ranges from 17 degrees to 19 degrees during this period, about 10 degrees lower than that in downtown Beijing. Horse riding, camping, watching local wrestling competitions, or staying in farmers’ Mongolian yurts to eat whole roast sheep and other plain foods are the main attractions for visitors. Vast lakes, sunrises and sunsets over the grasslands provide great views for city dwellers who have grown tired of the urban sprawl. Grassland tourism in Bashang is a recent phenomenon.
The grassland is covered with green grass and colorful flowers. Also the flocks are everywhere. One of the popular scenic spots on the grassland is the Jiulong Pine with a history of more than 1,300 years inside of Jietai Temple. In the Temple of Heaven, there are the Nine-Dragon Cypresses of the Liao Dynasty. Besides touring the attractions here, you can enjoy the cool climate during summer days. The beautiful scenery on the grassland must give a totally fresh feeling which is much different from the bustling life in a metropolis.
Present condition The grassland provides a complete set of facilities and equipment for traveling, simply relaxing, escaping the summer heat and enjoying your holiday. In recent years, many vacation villages and vacation centers have been erected, where tourists can take part in a range of activities like horse-riding, camel-riding, shooting, archery and campfire parties, in addition to snow-skating, mountain-climbing and karaoke-singing etc.

Tips Food and drink: You can taste the following diets of local flavor: China Shaji wine, plums on dry brunches, Ruyi vegetable (also called Fernery vegetable, Gong vegetable), lily flower, white mushroom, You Noodles, mutton ripped by hands, milk tea and tofu etc..
