Once, in ancient times, Xingping was the largest town along the Li River, and is 63 km (39 miles) from Guilin and 25 km (15.5 miles) from Yangshuo, on the east bank of the river. The town is really a beautiful place, surrounded by enthralling scenery. Both Mural Hill and Yellow Cloth Shoal belong to this scenic area. The charm of the town is greatly enhanced by the surrounding hills. The town is located at the foot of Wuzhi (five fingers) Hill. The hills in the east are Sengni Hill that resemble a monk and a nun are bickering with each other, Chaoban Hill is said to look like the tablet held by officials in court in ancient times and Arhat Hill looks like a smiling arhat monk exposing his breast to the sun. The hills in the south are Carp Hill and Snail Hill. The hills in the west are Bijia (pen holder) Hill and Meinv (belle) Peak. The hill in the north is Camel Hill resembling a camel crossing the river.
Xing ping Town:The historic sites here can be found in Xingping Old Street and Fishing Village about 2 km (1.3 miles) An ancient town, based on the hill at the back and overlooking the river, the scenic spots of Li River gather together here. There are numerous attractions around: east are Monks and Nuns Gathering, Lion Watching the Sky, Arhat Sunning his Belly etc; north are the God of Longevity Riding Donkey, Camel crossing the River etc; west are Penholder Hill and Beauty Peak etc; south is spacious, the Luoshi Hill, Carp Hill and the group of hills far away are set off each other, high or low, dense or sparse.
Fishing Village: locates on the east of Li River and the side of Carp Hill, it built in Zhengde Period, Ming dynasty (AC 1506-1521). The people in the village mainly make a living on the fishing, the trained- cormorant (also naming fish hawk) is the good assistant for them for fishing. Besides, the bamboo rafts, not wood rafts, are their traffic tools. It is a unique spot, different from that in other place in China. When your cruise travels here, you may land to the Fishing Village, and go fishing together with fishermen, experience once fisherman's living and taste the fresh and delicious Li River Fish; or visit the ancient buildings with Qing Dynastic style, how charming is this trip.
Three km (1.9 miles) northeast of Xingping Town, there is the newly opened Lotus Cave. The cave is more than 600 meters long and is 2 meters wide along its broadest part. Striking stalactites of different shapes are to be seen in the cave. For example, the main sights include 'the Lotus Petals Suspended Upside down', 'Two Dragons Creeping out the Cave' and the 108 large and small 'Lotus Pods'. The diameters of the 'lotus seed pods' vary from 20 cm to 1.5 meter (4.9 feet) and it's really amazing that the small stones inside the pods look like real seeds! In spring and autumn, the sight is really lifelike under a layer of mist. There is a piece of stalactite which can make euphonic sound when struck. Do you want to have a try?
Nine Horses Mural Hill There are nine horses' images on the hill. It is said that only those who are imaginative can recognize all the horses. To reach there, tourists can have a Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo, or take a boat/bamboo raft from Xingping to Yangdi. Hiking there will take 1-1.5 hrs from Xingping and about 2 hrs from Yangdi.
Fishing Village Located by the Li River and 2km from the town ship, it is famous for Bill Clinton and his family's visit. To get there, you have to take a ship from the ferry in the township. The village still keeps many old-style buildings.
Heaven Water Stockaded Village Near the Fishing Village and famed for its old buildings. There are two ancient wells in the village. Their waters are so limpid that they are considered from the haven, hence the village named.
Lotus Cave A weird karst cavern, just 6km from the Xingping Township. It is filled with strange stalactites and famed for its big unparalleled 108 plates of limestone lotus flowers.
Snail Hill A beautiful snail-like hill by the Li River and just about 2km from Xingping Township.
Tengjiao Temple A Ming-Dynasty-built temple under the Snail Hill, it seats in the mouth of a giant cave, tourists can visit the cave if the nuns permit. The cave is much bigger than the Reed Flute Cave in Guilin. You can hike there from the Xingping Township. On the way you can see many fruitful orchards and beautiful karst countryside sceneries.
Dayuan Wood Farm Home to the Yao Minorities of Xingpin and the heaven of White Water Raft Rider, it is about 5km away from Xingping Township.
