Shutong Hill stands prominently at the junction of the Tianjia River and the Li River . It is 10 meters high stretches out in a slot on the north hillside, the smallest peak along the bank of the Li River. There is a legend about this hill, long long ago, there lived a evil dragon in the Li River and endangered the local people. One day, a schoolboy received a sealed book from his teacher which taugh him how to conquer this vicious creature. At last the school boy conquered the dragon ,but for fear that the dragon might play a trick of opossum, the schoolboy, holding the book, stood by the riverside and changed into a hill to protect the local people. The Hill can easily be reached by bicycle. If you go across Yangshuo Bridge and continue for about 300 metres then look for the turnoff on the right onto a narrow road.

Originated in Mountain Mao'er at Xing'an county northeast of Guilin, Li River winds its way southeast for about 437 km, passing through Guilin, Yangshuo, Pingle, Zhaoping and finally meets Xi River in Wulin. It boasts the largest and most beautiful scenic area in China and attracts thousands of visitors.
The 83-km-long waterway from Guilin to Yangshuo is the centerpiece of Li River, decorated with rolling hills, steep cliffs, fantastic caves, leisurely boats and lined bamboos. A poem says: "The river is a green silk ribbon, and the hills are jade hair-pins."
The clean and clear Li River goes through Yangshuo for 56 km. On both banks of the river, magical peaks and push green bamboo trees reflect off the mirror like surface of the water to paint beautiful mountain and water murals. The most notable scenic spots along the river are in Yangshuo, i.e, Nine-Horse Mural Hill, Yellow Cloth Reflection, Xingping Village, Greeb Lotus Hill, Shutong Hill, etc.
The Moon Hill, the Big Banyan Tree, and Dragon River, also call the Yulong River, a famous tributary of Li River are also located in Yangshuo. Yulong River is a paradise for bamboo raftling because of its green hills, silky water and ancient bridges.
