Hangzhou, one of the seven famous ancient Chinese capitals, is a major tourist destination and historic culture city named by the State Council. With a history of more than 2, 200 years, Hangzhou once served as the capitals of Wu Yue Kingdom and Southern Song Dynasty. Hangzhou is the capital city of Zhejiang Province serving as the political, economical, cultural and communication hub of the province.

Hangzhou boasts beautiful natural landscapes and rich tourist resources. It has two state- level scenic areas: the West Lake Scenic Area and the Fuchun River-Xinan River-Thousand isles Lake Scenic Area. The charming West Lake Area enjoys high reputation both at home and abroad. The ancient saying has it "There is a paradise in the heaven, and down on earth there are Suzhou and Hangzhou. " During the 13th century the famous Italian traveller Marco Polo visited Hangzhou and described it as: "one of the most beautiful and magnificent cities in the world. "

Hangzhou sits along the southeast coast of China and northwest of Zhejiang Province. It has six districs: Shangcheng, Xiacheng, Xihu, Jianggan, Gongshu and Jiangbin; two county-level cities of Xiaoshan and Jiande; five counties of Fuyang, Tonglu, Chunan, Yuhang and Linan.

It covers an area of 16, 596 sqkm, with a population of 5. 8 million. While the city proper occupies 688 sqkm. with a population of 1. 63 million. Hangzhou enjoys a warm temperature climate and four distinct seasons. Its subtropical monsoon climate brings an average temperature of 16. 2 0C.

Linked to many areas by airplanes, railways, highways and waterways, Hangzhou is a developed center of communications and telecommunications on the southeast coast of China. Trains from Hangzhou can take you to such destination as Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Jinan, Nanchang, Shaoxing, Ningbo, Chongqing, Guiyang, Kunming, Guilin, Nanning, Fuzhou, Xiamen and Guangzhou. The express tour train from Hangzhou to Shanghai only takes two and half hours.

Hangzhou enjoys convenient traffic communication. At Present, Hangzhou has more than 30 airlines and over 180 flights are scheduled every week. The daily flights are scheduled between Hangzhou and Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Shanghai, Wenzhou and Huangyan every day. While one or four flights are scheduled every week between Hangzhou and Singapore, Haikou, Shantou, Guilin, Kunming, Changsha, Taiyuan, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xian, Wulumuqi, Lanzhou, Qingdao, Hefei, Nanjing, H aerbin, Changchun, Shengyang, Dalian, Quzhou, Shijiazhuang, Huangshan and so on.

By Air
Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH), located in Xiaoshan District about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) away from downtown Hangzhou, has domestic flight connections with major Chinese cities, including Beijing (CNY1150), Chengdu (CNY1600), Chongqing (CNY1360), Xian (CNY1130), and Guangzhou (CNY1050), and international connections with Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, and Osaka.

There are airport shuttle buses between Wulin Men, the city center and the airport. One-way fares are about 15 Yuan per person; Taxis cost about 120 Yuan one way. High-speed buses direct to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (SHA) directly can be found at the Wulin Men CAAC Ticket Office. Every day six buses run between Hangzhou and Shanghai from 6: 00 to 15:00. The bus fare is approximately 85 Yuan one-way.
There are also buses heading for Xiaoshan City (CNY 15), Shaoxing City (CNY 30) and Yiwu City (CNY 60).
 
By Train

Hangzhou is the hub of Zhejiang's railway transportation, as it connects with the national railway network through Hu-Hang, Zhe-Gan, Hang-Yong and Xuan-Hang lines. So, it would be very convenient to travel to and from Hangzhou by train. You can travel by train to major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Nanjing, and Guilin. The railway transportation between Hangzhou and Shanghai is even more convenient. There are five express trains daily starting from each of the two cities which take only 1 Hr. and 50 Min. A direct express train needs only 13 Hr. and 30 Min. from Hagnzhou to Beijing. Hangzhou has two passenger railway station, namely Hangzhou Railway Station (main) and Eastern Hangzhou Railway Station.

Hangzhou Railway Station Hangzhou Railway Station is the main railway station of Hangzhou, where all departing trains starts off. Moreover, some passing trains also call at here. Hangzhou Railway Station is also one of the symbols of Hangzhou. By Bus
There are four big shuttle bus stations in Hangzhou including East Bus Station, South Bus Station, West Bus Station, and North Bus Station. The convenient highway network can lead to Qingdao in Shandong Province to the north, Shenzhen in Guangdong Province to the south, Yichang in Hubei Province to the West, and Zhoushan to the East.
You can buy bus tickets in the bus stations directly.

And also, you can buy tickets in the Construction Bank of China in Hangzhou.
 
By Boat
For an enjoyable outing, you can choose waterway travel from Hangzhou to Suzhou, Wuxi, and Zhouzhuang. Normally, you can take the ship in the evening, reaching your destination next morning. The trip is a perfect way to appreciate the local flavor in the area south of the Yangtze River and the rich culture of the Grand Canal.
The boat fare from Hangzhou to Suzhou is about 100 Yuan.
