Transportation in Luoyang

Henan Province is the economic center of middle China. Luoyang, located in west Henan, serves as an important transportation junction. Luoyang Beijiao Airport accepts guests from many other cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing and Urumqi. It also has charter flights directly to Hong Kong. Two trunk railway lines connect in Luoyang, making it easy to get to the city from cities in the middle and west provinces of China. The city also has modern highways that connect other provincial cities and extend to other inland cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Xian, Jinan, Hefei, Wenzhou, Shenzhen, etc.

By Plane
Luoyang's airport is located some 13 kilometers northwest of the city. There are some flights to and from Chendu in China's southwest Sichuan province, Dalian, the coastal city in north China's Liaoning province, Guangzhou in south China. Flights to China's major tourism cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Xian & Guilin are not available. Use of the Zhengzhou Airport is a more convenient option. Tourists from Beijing, Shanghai and some more bigger cities can fly to Zhengzhou, capital city of the region and proceed to Luoyang by highway.
There is no public bus service between the city proper and the airport. CAAC shuttle buses serve passengers from the CAAC building to the airport & vice visa but they are not frequent. Taxi is a much more convenient option. Taxis are plentiful and it's very easy to flag down one or you can call a taxi right in front of your hotel. There is usually stream of taxi stopping in front of hotels for passengers. A ride to the airport via taxi costs about 30 yuan.
Tips:
On arrival at the airport, you can take a taxi to the city for about CNY100. Alternatively, you can take an airport shuttle bus that leaves from the airport every 45 minutes to one hour. Price is approximately CNY15 for an ordinary bus and CNY20 for an air-conditioned one. No.83 city bus stops at the airport and returns to the city for only CNY1.

Railway
Luoyang has three main railway stations including Luoyang Railway Station (90% of the train stops here), Luoyang East Railway Station and Kuan Lin Train Station. Luoyang has direct buses to reach these three railway stations. Also, Luoyang has originating long-distance trains to Jinan and Guangzhou.Longhai Railway winds across the whole nation from east to west, and Jiaozhi Railway connects most cities of Henan Province and Hubei Province. Meanwhile, Luoyang is an important stop station of the Eurasia Land Bridge from Lianyungang, China to Rotterdam, Holland, making goods transit more convenient from Middle Asia and from Eastern and Middle Europe to China. The city has two main railway stations. Luoyang Railway Station is located on Dao Nan Road in the northern part of the city. East Railway Station is situated on the Da Tong Road in Chanhe District. Trains operating along the Longhai and Jiaozhi Railways pass these two stations, extending to many other cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Zhengzhou, Yinchuan, Lanzhou and Urumqi.

By Long-Distance Bus

Luoyang is a junction point of many national and provincial highways. Two long-distance transit corporations operate luxury and standard buses to nearby cities in Henan Province as well as to cities in other inland provinces. Both corporations have affiliated bus stations. Luoyang Long-distance Bus Station is situated opposite the Luoyang Railway Station on Jin Gu Yuan Road. It is operated by the First Bus Transit Corporation and plays an important role in the city's long distance transportation.

City Traffic
►Taxi
The taxies in Luoyang are mainly Jetta (accounted for about 80%) and Charade. The pricing starts from 6 yuan in 2.5 kilometers, beyond which you need to pay 1.3 yuan or 1.5 yuan per kilometer. Luoyang city is not too big, hence, 20 yuan taxi fees can take you to travel most of the city.

►Bus
The bus fares are divided into 1 yuan and 1.5 yuan according to the distance. Every 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m., Luoyang train station and bus station have special tourist buses destined for surrounding scenic areas of Luoyang like Xiaolangdi Scenic Zone.

Bus NO.60 from Gushuixi to Longmen Grottoes and Baiyuan through Guanlin;
Bus NO.81 from Luoyang Railway Station to Longmen Grottoes and Baiyuan;

Bus NO.66 to Luoyang Peony Garden;
Bus NO.83 to Folk Custom Museum;
Bus NO.16 to Tian-Zi-Jia-Liu Museum through Wangcheng Square.
In addition, there are Tourist Buses which depart from Luoyang railway station and bus station at 6- 7:30 every morning to scenic spots in the surrounding including Xiaolangdi, Chongdugou and many other attractions.
