Hongqiao Soho Shanghai

Design: Zaha Hadid Architects

Linkong Economic Park - Great Hongqiao Business Zone

Zaha Hadid together with a group of architects has radically changed the China’s skyline over the last years. Their modernizations, which have flooded China, feature incredible conceptual integrity. One of the 5 remarkable projects crowned with success is Sky SOHO in Shanghai. It is located close to Shanghai’s city centre, Hongqiao Airport and Hongqiao Transportation Hub. The structure hosts an office block, a retail centre and unites three thematic courtyards

The future Linkong Economic Park is favourably located within the Great Hongqiao Business Zone which lies adjacent to Hongqiao Transportation Hub and in proximity to Hongqiao Airport and Shanghai’s city centre. The Great Hongqiao Business Zone enjoys access to the Transportation Hub’s high speed rail, subway and airport transportation systems and benefits from the nearby airport’s attraction for global and local enterprises wishing to settle down in the region.

Zaha Hadid continues to design the East. After the recent inauguration of ‘Opera House” in Guangzhou. Here there is a new project by Zaha Hadid: HONGQIAO SOHO Shanghai, China (2010-2013). In a strategical position, near  to Hongqiao Transportation Hub and in proximity to Hongqiao Airport and Shanghai’s city centre. It is an strong presence, standing out from the its neighbouring plots and possesses high visibility within the larger context .

The building’s skylines and the shape looks like a new sign by Zaha, we feel to see something different from the usual drawing used like "Hadid - brand".

Zaha Hadid Architects’ proposal aims to provide a new identity which establishes it as a unique destination in its own right.  The building envelope is defined by four main components: four elongated elements tied together by a sinuous retail podium and continuous metallic ribbon that wraps them, and a green roof, a calligraphic gesture which will be highly recognizable. Such simplicity is made complex by a “squeeze” applied to the middle area and by adding filaments which tie the bars together.

The same fluent idea but there is something different : Is it just a feel? Perhaps, but we see new lines are in the future of that architectural practice.
