Mingsha Mountain in Hami
Mingsha Mountain is about 12 kilometers away from the south of Koumenzi. TheProvincial-level National Highway 302 goes across the east side of Minsha Mountain. Yanming Mountain is located in the east margin of the Balikun Basin. It's surrounded by high mountains. Mingsha Mountain covers an area of 25 square kilometers. It's 2,019 meters above sea level. Its relative elevations are not the same, from 35 meters to 115 meters. Most sand dunes stretch from northwest to southeast. The west slopes slope gently and the east slopes are steep. Sand dunes are made up of small golden sands. The pointed ridges wriggle through the mountain.Sand dunes are connected each other. The Osier Lake scatters and flows through the bottom of Mingsha Mountain, which forms a sweep of green and lush meadow marsh. While water evaporates, a huge steam resonator is formed around Mingsha Mountain. When people slide down from the top of Mingsha Mountain, piezoelectric energy that is produced because of the extrusion and collision of sands can be converted into elasticity energy, and then be converted into sound energy. When the sound energy is enlarged by the sympathetic vibration of the resonator of the Osier Lake, the sounds of " Wengwengweng"and "Sisisi" are made like the thunder. It seems that a bombing plane fleet over the sky. If a lot of people slide down together, the sound can make the ears tingle. The intense sound makes all the people, who are sliding on the sands or listening to the sound made by sands, excited. They cheer, dancing and skipping with joy. There is a tourist reception station in Mingshan Mountain now. It can offer the people log sledges for sliding. A wooden ladder with more than 200 steps for climbing up the mountain is built in Mingsha Mountain. All these create the essential condition for the recreation of sliding.
At the mountain, most sand dunes are interconnected and stretch from northwest to southeast. The west slopes fall gently and the east slopes are steep. Osier Lake flows through the bottom of Mingsha Mountain, forming a panorama of lush, green meadow marsh.
As the water evaporates, a huge steam resonator forms around Mingsha Mountain. When people sled down from the top of Mingsha Mountain, the sands make thunderous sounds as the sand part and collide. If many people slide down at the same time, the sound is strong enough to make one's ears tingle.
In recent years, a quite large basin between massifs has been found in the hinterland of Mingsha Mountain. There is a seabuckthorn forest in the basin, with an area of 0.6 hectares. A lot of luxuriant trees cover it. The height of these trees is more than two meters. There is also a small spring in the shape of crescent. The spring has fountain all the year around. The wet-sand layer under the surface of the sands of Mingsha Mountain is distributed obviously because green grass often grows on it. In the depressions of the sand dunes, medicinal herbs grow in flakes. The landscape is very magnificent. Fan Lihua camped in MingSha Mountain in the Tang Dynasty, and their tents were buried by wind - blown sand overnight.
The tourist station on Mingsha Mountain provides log sleds for sledding.
(In China, the Mingsha Mountain in Hami is not the only one but the most famous as the sound it creats is the biggest. Other major Singing Sand Mountains include one in Dunhuang of Northwest Gansu province, one in Baotou, Inner Mongolia and one in Northwest Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. )
