Drum and Bell Towers Square :Xian's city center was a rather pleasant surprise.As the symbol of Xi'an, the Bell Tower stands at the real centre of the city. It was built in 1384.The Ancient town is a perfect square, with well-conserved walls still standing. The Belltower is in the middle of this square and foure street depart from here like a cross reaching four gates named, not so originally, North, South, East and West Gate.

Big willd Goose Pagoda :As the symbol of the old-line Xian, Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. It is located in the southern suburb of Xian City, about 4 kilometers (2.49 miles) from the downtown of the city. Standing in the Da Ci'en Temple complex, it attracts numerous visitors for its fame in the Buddhist religion, its simple but appealing style of construction, and its new square in front of the temple. It is rated as a National Key Cultural Relic Preserve as well as an AAAA Tourist Attraction.


Ancient City Walls :The first landmark visitors will encounter in Xi'an is the ancient city wall, which stretches round the old city.The City Wall of Xi'an was established in the 3rd year of Hongwu Period of the Ming Dynasty(1370 A.D.) in a rectangular form with a perimeter of 13.79 km and an area of 11.47 km2. It is 12 meters tall, 14 meters wide at the top and 18 meters thick at the base with 18 gates and a surrounding moat, being the only best preserved large ancient fortress in China.

Great Mosque :The Great Mosque in Xian is one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved Islamic mosques in China and its location is northwest of the Drum Tower (Gu Lou) on Huajue Lane.The Great Mosque of Xian is the largest and best preserved of the early mosques of China. Built primarily in the Ming Dynasty when Chinese architectural elements were synthesized into mosque architecture, the mosque resembles a fifteenth century Buddhist temple with its single axis lined with courtyards and pavilions.

Han Yangling     Situated near Wei River in the northern suburb of Xi`an city, Han Yang Ling Mausoleum is the historical site designated for state protection. This mausoleum which combines modern technology, ancient civilization, historical culture and garden scenery, is built at the base of the joint tomb of Emperor Jindi and his Empress. It is the largest museum in China.Profound Han culture, exquisite relics, unique underground museum and pleasant scenery make Han Yangling Museum the most charming and attractive museum locally and abroad. 


Shaanxi History Museum Shaanxi History Museum, a large modern museum of the national level, is situated 1km away, northwest of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It is a giant architectural complex in the Tang-dynasty style. It occupies an area of 70,000 square metres, and the construction area being more than 50,000 square metres. It focuses on the highlights of the Shaanxi culture and depicts the development of the Chinese civilization.

Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show  The Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show is one of the most attractive entertainments for tourists to Xi'an. It is rooted in the historic records and folk legends about the Tang Dynasty and shows to the audience the court life and social customs of more than 1,300 years ago through such performances as instrument playing and dancing. The Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Troupe not only appeal to the Chinese but also capture foreigners who take a profound interest in Chinese culture.

Museums: 博物馆

By exhibition and description, the collections in the museum have shortened the distance to visitors between the past and present. There, you can find many museums which record the glorious history of the city.

Banpo Museum Banpo Neolithic Village Museum. The remains of this village, located just east of Xian and inhabited from about 4500 B.C. to 3750 B.C., were discovered in 1953. The museum was built in 1958. Placards in both Chinese and English help the visitor understand this very early settlement of the area. Inside the museum, there are the hall , for the ruins, the hall for cultural relics, and the clay cave ruins. The Banpo Lady Statue on the rock in the garden pond bears a physical resemblance to the early Banpo people.

Forest of Stone Tablets Built during the Northern Song dynasty, it is situated near the south gate of the Xian City Wall. Initially built in AD 1087, when precious stone steles were housed here for safekeeping, including; the Classic on Filial Piety written by Emperor Xuanzong in AD 745 and the Kaicheng Stone Steles carved in AD 837.Occupying an area of 31,000 square meters, the Forest of Stone Steles has been the principal museum for Shaanxi Province since 1944. The second exhibition hall holds a Nestorian tablet (AD 781) the earliest recorded account of Christianity in China.

Xi'an Museum (Small Wild Goose Pagoda)New! The Small Wild Goose Pagoda Scenic Area is located in the southern suburb of Xian, about 2 kilometers to the south of the City Wall. Covering an area of 16.3 hectares (40.4 acres), it mainly consists of the Xian Museum, the ancient Jianfu Temple built in the year 684 A.D during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and the famous Small Wild Goose Pagoda. The scenic area has become a wonderful leisure site for the appreciation of cultural relics, sightseeing and entertainment.

Temples, mosques and pagodas are religious architecture, reflecting the city's profound religious culture and thoughts.

 Ba Xian An Monastery (Temple of the Eight Immortals ) The Eight Immortals Temple, which was called "Ba Xian An" means eight immortals temple in ancient China, is located to the north of Changle Fang Street belongs to the area Dongguan of Xi'an city. It is the biggest Taoist temple in Xi'an and is a well-known Taoist architecture in northwest China

Daxingshan Temple Xian  The Daxingshan Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in China. It was built during the Western Jin Dynasty (265-316). During the Sui and Tang dynasties, Buddhism prevailed widely in Changan, Xian City's earlier name. Many Indian monks stayed there to translate the sutras and spread the Buddhist doctrines. Over time, the Daxingshan Temple became one of three temples especially used for translating sutras. The other two are Cien Temple and Jianfu Temple.

Famen Temple Famen Temple is located in Famen Town 120 kilometers northwest of Xian.Famen (Buddhism Door, meaning the initial approach to becoming a Buddhist believer) Temple is famous for housing the four important Buddhist relics linked to Sakyamuni (Siddhartha Guatama) himself, the founder of Buddhism, including reputedly the remains of his finger bone. This would be the only remaining fragment of “the Sage of the Shakyas” in the world today. Although this Temple is a fair distance from Xian, it is a fascinating place with an intriguing history and it is worth making the effort to get here.

Green Dragon Temple (Qinglong Temple) Green Dragon Temple is a famous Buddhist Temple from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). When it was built in 582, it was called Linggan Temple (Temple of Inspiration) and then renamed to its present one in 711. When Buddhism was prevalent during the Tang Dynasty, some Japanese monks were sent to China to study Buddhism. Six of them studied at Green Dragon Temple, and this led to a flourishing period of the temple in the ninth century.

Straw Hut Temple Known as the Buddhist Holy Land, Caotang Temple lies about 30 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Xian, in Caotangying Village of Huxian County. Initially built in 401, the temple became a sacred place where the Buddhist master, Kumarajiva (one of the four Buddhist translators), translated Buddhist scriptures. The temple was a thatch-roofed house, so it got the name of Caotang Temple, meaning Straw Hut Temple.

Xingjiao Temple Xingjiao Temple is situated at Chang'an County in the south of Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, and is one of Fanchuan Region's Big Eight Temples in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Bone relics of Xuanzang, an accomplished monk in the same dynasty, were buried here.


Xiangji Temple  angji Temple was situated some 20 kilometers to the south of Xi'an, closely to the Wangqu Town. The temple was lasted its prosperous days mainly during the Tang Dynasty. Emperors GaoZong and ZhongZong, a, nd Empress Wu Zetian had all visited here and cults started in their honor. At presently, numerous travelers from both home and abroad treat here as a well choice.

Tombs and Mausoleums: 陵墓:

As a famous saying goes, "The loess in Shaanxi buries the emperors". In and around Xian City, there are countless tombs and mausoleums, some of which have been excavated and some remain undeveloped.

Maoling Mausoleum The tomb of Emperor Wu of Han - Liu Che (157 BC - 87 BC), Maoling Mausoleum is located about 40 kilometers (about 25 miles) away from Xian City. This mausoleum is called ‘the Chinese Pyramid' since it is not only the largest but it also held the richest burial contents of all the mausoleums of Emperors constructed during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - 24 AD), and took the longest time, 53 years, to build.

Qin Shi Huang Tomb The tomb of Qin Shi Huang is located in the eastern suburbs of Lintong County, 35 kilometers (22 miles) east of Xian: on the Lishan Mountain in the south and overlooking the Wei River towards north. The lay of the land from Lishan to Mount Hua is shaped dragon-like according to traditional Chinese geomancy. The imperial , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , tomb is at the eye of the dragon. The emperor had chosen well.The Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses  are world famous, attracting a large number of tourists from home and abroad to visit each ye, ar.  However, they are only a part of the yet unexcavated mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang located to its west. Inside this huge mausoleum, greater things are yet, , to come.<, /FONT><, /P>

Qianling Mausole, um Qianling, the tomb of the third Tang emperor, Li Zhi, and Empress Wu Zetian, is located on Liangshan Mountain, 6 kilometers north of Qianxian County seat and 80 kilometers from Xi'an. Here also stands the Q, ianling Mausoleum and Museum.The Qianling Mausoleum, now a AAAA class tourist attraction with typical grand Tang, Dynasty cultural features, is among the first key sites, of historic value to be protected and promoted by the government.

, Tomb of Crown Prince Yide A, nother important satellite tomb of the Qianling , Mausoleum is the Tomb of Crown Prince YiDe,  it is the largest, in scale, Emperor-level Tang Tomb that has been excavated so far. which l, ocates on the southeast. Officially, the tomb was excavated by the government in 1971. Following with more than 190 pieces cultural relics, over 450 square meters mural paintings of Tang Dynas, ty are presented to public. All of which have supplied depe, ndable data , , to research on the Tang Dynasty.

, Tomb of Prince Zhanghuai Positioned on, the foot of Liang Mountain in Qianxian Country, it is one of the 17 satellite tombs of the Qianling Mausoleum. The structure of the bomb is basically the similar with the Princess Yongtai, only a little small in scale.The most excellent and fascinating point in the tomb is the wall painting covering some 400 square meters. From which we could generally draw an outline of his whole life. Among these charming paintings Courtiers and Foreign Envoys, Hunting Procession, Polo Game and Watching Birds and Catching Cicadas demonstrate superb artistic achievements of the Tang dynasty.

Tomb of Princess Yongtai The Tomb of Princess Yongtai is the first tomb to be excavated and remains the most impressive of all the satellite tombs in Qianling.The Tomb of Princess Yongtai is pyramid-shaped, 87.5 meters long and 3.9 meters wide with a chamber 16.7 meters deep. In front of the tomb the road is lined with a pair of stone lions, two pairs of stone figures, and a pair of obelisks (ornamental stone columns).

Zhaoling Mausoleum Zhaoling Mausoleum, the tomb of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), is the largest royal mausoleum in the world. Situated at Jiuzong Mountain in Liquan County, 83 km (51.5 miles) away from Xian City, Zhaoling Mausoleum covers an area of more than 200 sq km (about 49,421 acres) and consists of 190 other tombs. Royal families, ministers and generals, high officials of Emperor Taizong were buried after death in these tombs to accompany him.

Western Zhou Chariot Burial Pit Xian In history, Xi'an is capital of five Dynasties, Qin, Han, Sui, Tang and Western Zhou, so Xi'an has the rich and colorful cultural background. The site of the emperor and the style of the ancient structures add extra charm and beauty to this city.There excavated several Western Zhou Chariot Burial Pits at Zhangjiapo, Chang'an County in the year 1955. And now, it is only one that completely preserved. The war chariot was one of the most predominating symbols of power in the Bronze Age. The Pit consists of all the burial objects for deceased slave-owners of Western Zhou Dynasty.

Huangdi Mausoleum Scenic Spot:As an AAAA-class scenic place, the Mausoleum of Yellow Emperor is not only a beautiful resort, but also an important national relic.The Huangdi Mausoleum is located in Huangling County, 150 kilometers northwest of Xian. Forest-liked evergreens and ancient cypress trees covered the hill. At the foot of the hill, there was the Xuanyuan Temple. Xuanyuan Temple is also named Huangdi Temple, established in the Ming Dynasty (1368 --- 1644). The main structures inside the temple are Temple Gate, Chengxin Kiosk, Stele Pavilion and 'Renwen Chuzu' (Huangdi, the initiator of Chinese civilization) Hall

Xian is not only endowed with human landscapes, but its natural scenery is also worth visiting.

Mountain Hua :This mountain is considered to be one of the holy mountains in China. Earlier it was called Mt. Taihuashan. Located in the county of Huayin, this mountain range is about 120 kilometers from the east of Xian. It is famous for its spectacular and gorgeous crags and ridges, and offers stunning views. It comprises of five major peaks – the North Peak, the East Peak, the South peak, the West Peak and the Middle Peak. Each of them has its own charm and grace.

Taibai Mountain National Forest Park: Lying at the north foot of Taibai Mountain (the peak of Qinling Mountain), Taibai Mountain National Forest Park, is located in Meixian County, in Baoji City of Shaanxi Province. Covering an area of 7,287 acres, 94.3% of which is covered with forest, it contains 10 scenic districts and over 180 attractions. Since its height above the sea level varies from 0.39 miles to 2.18 miles, Taibai Mountain National Forest Park is the highest national forest park of China. It was officially established in 1991 and has been formally open to the public since July, 1992.Taibai means 'too white' in Chinese, used here to describe the color of the mountain. Because of the cold climate in the mountain, thick layers of ice have always been covering its summits all the year round. Endowed with prosperous forest resources, rich animal species, odd mountainous physiognomy together with its profound historical scenes, Taibai Mountain National Forest Park has attracted countless tourists from home and abroad.

It has been roughly twenty years since the first golf course opened in China and today the game is growing in popularity by leaps and bounds.
The country now has the second greatest number of golf courses in Asia and only four other countries in the world have more golf courses than China. Xian is not to be outdone, and there is a course where you can enjoy world class golfing.

Parks and Palaces:公园和园林

Some parks are newly built while some are constructed on the foundation of ancient relics, but they are equally wonderful.

Huaqing Hot Spring Huaqing Hot Spring is one of famous hot springs in China which situated at the northern foot of Mt. Lishan in Lintong County, 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from Xian City. Historically, the Western Zhou dynasty made the construction of the Li Palace on the spot. In the Qin dynasty a pool was built with stones, and was given the name Lishan Tang (the Lishan Hot Spring). The site was extended into a palace in the Han dynasty, and renamed the Li Palace (the Resort Palace). In the Tang dynasty, Li Shimin (Emperor Tai Zong) ordered to construct the Hot Spring Palace, and Emperor Xuan Zong had a walled palace built around Lishan Mountain and finished in the year of 747. It was known as the Huaqing Palace. It also had the name Huaqing Pool on account of its location on the hot springs.

Qinling Zoological Park :Qinling Zoological Park is the first park of its kind to be established in the northwest region in China. 28 kilometers (about 17 miles) south of the downtown area of Xian City, Shaanxi Province, this zoological park has more than 300 species of animal, with many different types of birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles.
Tang Paradise:Near the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Tang Paradise is located in the Qujiang Resort, southeast of the Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. It is a newly opened tourist attraction in April, 2005. Tang Paradise covers a total area of 1000 mu (about 165 acres) and of which 300 mu (about 49 acres) is water. This tourist attraction not only claims to be the biggest cultural theme park in the northwest region of China but also the first royal-garden-like park to give a full display of the Tang Dynasty's (618-907) culture. Altogether, twelve scenic regions are distributed throughout Tang Paradise to provide visitors with the enjoyment of twelve cultural themes and a perfect , exhibition of the grandness, prosperity and brilliance of the culture of the Tang Dynasty.

The streets in Xian have long history and have witnessed the city's change and development.

Muslim Steet Xian(Huimin Jie) :The Muslim Quarter is a myriad of narrow streets laden with handicraft shops, Muslim restaurants and street vendors selling souvenirs and traditional foods. Situated next to the Drum Tower, the area features a mixture of Chinese and Islamic cultures, occupying a fraction of the area it once did. It remains popular with tourists and locals who choose to hang out on the streets amongst the comforting smell of street food.

Shuyuanmen Ancient Cultural Street The ancient cultural street of Shuyuanmen is situated in the south of the old district of the city. 106 meters or so away from the south circumvallation of the Ming Dynasty, its total length is 570 meters. Shuyuanmen is famous for situating Guanzhongshuyuan, the biggest institute of the Ming Dynasty in Shaanxi. Most of the constructions in the whole street of Shuyuanmen have walls built with blue bricks, doors and windows built with grilles, and sloping roofs. Full of firms and integrating all functions of culture, tourism and commerce, this street is well-off, tidy and of a neat touch.

Defuxiang : Xi'an, famous for its glory of ancient days, now the nightlife is starting to sparkle.Defuxiang street is Xi'an's majoy nightlife hive, many visitors coming to experience its modern nightlife here.Most nightspots are at least as likely to tout specialty tea brews as to hawl house cocktails. The vibe is certainly not quiet- but it's not particularly loud, either.

Louguantai Wild Animal Breeding and Protection Center :Located approximately 76 kilometres (1.5 hours) from Xian, the centre is the first crested ibis (one of the 50 rarest birds in the world) breeding centre in China. Other animals include giant pandas, golden monkeys, black bears, leopards, giant salamanders, peacocks, antelope, white lipped deer, musk deer, vulture and owls.

Foping National Nature Reserve in Shaanxi陕西佛坪自然保护区

Situated in Foping County, Shaanxi Province, the natural reserve covers an area of 29240 hectares. The establishment thereof was approved by the State Council in 1978 to mainly protect giant pandas and the ecological system in the forest. It is located on the south slope of the middle section of Qinling

Changqing Nature Reserve is located in the Qinling Mountains, Shaanxi Province, 300 km south of Xi 'An. The reserve, which reaches elevations of over 3000m, is one of the most important ecological areas in China. It provides one of the best and last remaining places where Giant Pandas, Golden Takin, Golden Monkeys and Crested Ibis can be found in the wild. It is also home to 39 other threatened animals and 31 threatened plants. Not only does the area offer stunning mountain landscapes and the chance to view wildlife, it also contains a number of cultural sites, including the Han Dynasty Tangluo Trail, remains of ancient temples, shrines and roads.长青国家级自然保护区位于秦岭中段南坡的洋县北部,是1995年经国务院批准建立的以保护大熊猫为主的森林和野生动物类型自然保护区,总面积三万公顷。区内有种子植物2039种,列入国家重点保护的31种;有脊椎动物330种,其中国家重点保护动物40种,尤以大熊猫、金丝猴、羚牛、朱鹮最为著名。 主要景区景点有:活人坪景区、珍稀动物观赏区、森林垂直带谱、亚高山草甸、太白红杉纯林、石门瀑布、烽火石柱、第四纪冰川遗迹等

Hanzhong Crested Ibis Nature Reserve  汉中朱鹮保护区
Located in northern Yangxian County, this national nature reserve wa, s established to protect a rare bird, crested ibis from extinction. The reserve has the only rescue and carecenter for the crested ibis in China. The number of , birds has increased from the initial seven ones in the wild to five hundred. 

Farmers' Caves :As a type of dwelling existing only in China, the farmers' caves in Shaanxi Province, especially in Northern Shaanxi, are unique travel destinations. In some areas of Shaanxi Province such as the Yan'an area, farmers' caves abound

    Hukou Waterfall:  The Yellow River is the mother river of the Chinese nation. In its basin, there is a tourist attraction that visitors should not miss. That is Hukou Waterfall, a glistening pearl in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. It is located in Yichuan County in Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. It is the only magnificent yellow waterfall in the world and the second biggest waterfall in China after Huangguoshu Waterfall.
